What do I need to rent a vehicle?
To get started, you’ll need:
- A valid driver’s license
- Active auto insurance
- A payment method
- To be at least 21 years old
Do I need my own insurance to rent a vehicle?
Yes. All renters must have active auto insurance in their own name and provide proof of insurance before renting a vehicle from Turnage Rental Cars.
We require renters to carry full coverage insurance, including:
- Liability coverage
- Collision coverage
- Comprehensive coverage
Proof of insurance is required before any rental can begin and may be requested again before approving an extension or renewal.
Liability-only insurance does not meet our current rental requirements.
Where do I pick up and return the vehicle?
All rentals are handled at our office:
Turnage Rental Cars
4637 Augusta Rd
Lexington, SC 29073
At this time, we do not offer delivery or alternate pickup or drop-off locations.
How much is the deposit?
We require a $100 refundable deposit.
It’s returned after the vehicle is brought back and checked in, as long as there are no additional charges.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept:
- Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover
- Affirm, Klarna, and Afterpay
A valid card will still be required for your deposit and any additional charges.
Do I need my own insurance?
Yes. To rent a vehicle, you'll need a valid driver's license and active auto insurance. We may request proof of insurance before your rental begins.
For added protection, we also offer an optional Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) for an additional fee. Please contact us for details on coverage and eligibility.
If you're looking for additional rental vehicle protection, there are third-party rental protection providers available online. Be sure to review any coverage carefully to determine whether it meets your needs.
Can I use the car for Uber, Lyft, or deliveries?
No. Our vehicles are for personal use only.
They cannot be used for rideshare or delivery services like Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, or similar platforms.
Can I drive out of state?
Yes, travel to nearby states may be permitted as long as your trip remains within our approved 200-mile radius from Turnage Rental Cars. If you plan to travel outside South Carolina or beyond the 200-mile radius, please let us know before your rental begins so we can review your trip and provide approval if applicable.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are not permitted in our vehicles.
Service animals are allowed with proper documentation. However, you are still responsible for any cleaning or damage caused during the rental.
Can I smoke in the vehicle?
No. All vehicles are non-smoking.
If smoke odor is detected, a $500 cleaning fee will be applied.
What happens if I return the car without gas?
We ask that you return the vehicle with the same fuel level.
If it’s lower, we’ll simply add a $15 per quarter tank charge.
What if I return the vehicle late?
If you’re running late, just give us a call.
Additional charges may apply, but we’ll always try to work with you when possible.
Who is allowed to drive the vehicle?
Only drivers listed on the rental agreement are allowed to drive.
If someone else needs to drive, just let us know ahead of time so we can add them.
What happens if I get a toll or ticket?
You’re responsible for any tolls, tickets, or violations during your rental.
If we receive them after your rental, they’ll be charged to your payment method.
Will I get the exact car I see online?
Not always, but you’ll receive a similar vehicle in the same class.
What should I do if something happens during my rental?
If there’s an accident or issue:
- Call 911 if needed
- Then contact us right away
We’ll guide you through next steps.
Can I extend my rental?
Maybe. Rental extensions must be approved in advance and are subject to vehicle availability.
To approve an extension, we require:
- Current proof of full coverage insurance
- Payment for the additional rental period
- Vehicle availability
To ensure availability for future reservations, rentals are generally limited to a maximum of two one-day extensions. Additional extensions may require the vehicle to be returned and a new rental agreement completed.
